One of the hardest changes I've had to adapt to with this pandemic, is not being able to go to the gym.  It's been hard not seeing my friends and teammates, and even harder trying to find creative ways to still workout while at home.

My friend Dorian recently posted about something called a slosh pipe in the Facebook group Train Evansville (which has been a great resource for support, and at home workouts during this).  When I saw that post, I knew that was exactly what I needed! Because right now you can't find dumbbells or barbells anywhere online.  So when I saw a training tool I could easily build, and get to working out with, I knew it was just what my home "gym" needed.

So what is a slosh pipe?  Well it's PVC pipe filled 50-60% full of water and capped.  The water will slosh from side to side and really make it hard for you to stabilize it.  So my husband and I decided to build ours yesterday, here's what you need (bonus you can order all of these items online and do curbside pickup).

Here's what you need:

  • 4-inch diameter PVC pipe between 5-10 feet long
  • 2 PVC caps
  • PVC cement
  • Sandpaper
  • Water

That's it! I'll link a video below showing how to assemble, but if you want a good laugh you can see me trying to get my slosh pipe over my head for a squat. I can already tell this is going to be my most loved and hated training tool for at home.

Tonight we made two slosh pipes, and holy crap I did not expect them to be so hard to work with It’s just a 4-inch PVC pipe filled 50-60% with water and capped. The water is meant to slosh from side to side, making it hard to stabilize. I got a really short one, and Sam got a longer one. I’m glad I started with the short though, because these are rough! Also I’m sure our neighbors enjoyed the free comedy. I’m glad we got them finished up tonight though. I’m excited to add these into my at home training. Oh and the best part, all that you need to buy to make them you can get at Lowe’s curbside pickup (and probably any other hardware store, because I bet they’re all doing curbside pickup right now). . . #homegym #homeworkout #diy #sloshpipe
