Melting Ice and Breaking Hearts – Southern Indiana Woman is on Fire
I was doing a little window shopping at some of our Evansville, Indiana consignment shops when a Barbie made me do a double-take. The special edition Hockey Player You Can Be Anything Barbie looks a lot like someone I know. You might know her too.
Mackenzie Elliott is so awesome, even Barbie wants to be like her.
Girls CAN Do Anything Right Barbie?
Mackenzie Elliott was the First-ever female captain for the Evansville Thunder Hockey Team and for the Owensboro team as well. She is working with Swonder Ice Arena and the Evansville Thunder for more girls to get involved in the sport with a Mid Am Girls Hockey Camp. She was able to get out on the ice and represent the McCutchanville Fire Department during the during the Pink the Rink benefit in October of 2023.
Obstacle Turns Into Opportunity
Mackenzie's high school senior year of hockey ended early due to a pretty scary injury. This put her college plans in the penalty box, but Mackenzie put that setback to work for her. She was inspired to help other athletes with injuries. She is currently a student at the University of Evansville studying Exercise Science and in the doctorate program.
From the Rink to the Ring
You won't see Mackenzie fighting anyone at Guns & Hoses, the charity boxing event coming up on April 13, 2024, at The Ford Center. You will see her in between matches as both she and her mom, Crystal return as Ring Girls. Jeff Purdue Photography takes the most amazing pics and the sneak peek from their recent photo shoot doesn't disappoint!
This is not her publicity photo for The Bachelorette...But it certainly could be.
