Why Cereal is the Ultimate Comfort Food

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – cereal is the perfect food! I’m not saying it’s the healthiest or the best for you – but for me, it’s perfect. If there’s ever a time when nothing really sounds good to eat, you can best believe that I’m going with cereal. If my stomach feels a little funky (probably because of something I already ate), I know that my trusty friend, cereal, is gonna go easy on me. I could go on and on, but I think you get my point.

Researchers Studied America’s Favorite Cereals

Another thing I love about cereal is the huge variety – there are so many to choose from, and a flavor for every palate. Do you have a favorite? Can you narrow it down to just one? Have you ever wondered what Indiana’s favorite is? Well, a research team at Concordia University, St. Paul, decided to answer that question, not only for the Hoosier State, but for the whole country. They analyzed Google Trends search term data for 34 U.S. cereals over the past year.

Indiana’s Favorite Cereal Was Totally Unexpected

Based on the data, the team determined that Indiana’s favorite brand of cereal is…

GOLDEN CRISP!

Wait, what? Not Cookie Crisp? Not Cinnamon Toast Crunch? Not Raisin Bran or Frosted Flakes? It’s freaking Golden Crisp?

I’m not saying it’s a bad cereal, but there are certainly a bunch of brands that are better. It could be worse, though. We could be North Dakota, where Special K (boring!) is the favorite cereal. Ha!

LOOK: 35 Vintage Cereals That Perfectly Captured Pop Culture Moments

Movies and TV shows have always found ways to partner with cereal companies as part of their promotion strategy. While some may have come up with a giveaway in boxes, others went big by having their own cereal connected to the movie or TV show title. Here are vintage cereals that were used to promote some of pop culture's biggest moments (and some you probably forgot about).
