Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry has announced that longtime City Councilor Missy Mosby will step into a brand-new role as the city’s first-ever Director of Evansville Animal Care & Control (EACC). Mosby, who has spent nearly two decades serving on the City Council, officially begins her new position on Monday, October 27.

A New Role Focused on Animal Welfare in Evansville

So why create this position? Mayor Terry says it’s all about putting a stronger spotlight on animal welfare, improving transparency, and making sure the services EACC provides are the very best for residents and their pets.

Evansville deserves an Animal Care & Control system that reflects our community’s values: compassion, accountability, and care for every life. Missy brings unmatched passion and leadership to the table.

Why Missy Mosby is the Perfect Fit for Animal Care & Control

If you know Missy, then this move should come as no surprise. She’s been a fierce advocate for animals for years. From helping develop one of Indiana’s first animal abuse registries, to working for stricter penalties for abusers, to updating the city’s animal care ordinance earlier this year – she’s consistently put animal welfare front and center.

From Evansville City Council to Animal Care

Taking on this new role means Missy will step away from her City Council seat after 18 years of service, where she also led efforts to improve neighborhoods, prevent flooding, and connect homes to the sewer system. Now, she’s shifting her full focus to the furry residents of Evansville.

I’ve dedicated my career to this community I love, and now I have the opportunity to focus my lifelong passion for animals into building a stronger, more compassionate system.

See How Downtown Evansville Has Changed Over the Years

I find looking back on the way things used to be fascinating. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I'm living through the current time period. The conveniences of answering any question we have in seconds, or ordering practically anything we want or need and having it delivered to our doorstep is pretty sweet. But, there is something fun about seeing how things around us have evolved. As an Evansville native, and spending quite a bit of my time in downtown Evansville (that's where the station is located), I've always appreciated the older architecture of the buildings around the area. So, I dug into the Willard Library Archives to see how a few of those areas look now compared to then. Some have changed a little, others quite a bit, and a few don't even exist any more. Take a look.
