Owensboro 4th Grader Competing in National Face of Horror Contest Needs Your Help to Meet Jason Voorhees

Most ten (almost 11)-year-olds would be terrified by horror movies featuring gory murder scenes and creepy villains like Freddy Krueger or Jason Voorhees, but Jaxon Barnett LOVES them. He can't get enough of scary movies and games that would have had me peeing my pantaloons as a kid.

This 4th-grader at Newton Parrish Elementary School has been a huge fan of the horror genre his whole life actually. His mom Jamie Saddler told me his first birthday party was even Halloween-themed. With a birthday on October 20th during the spooky season, that makes perfect sense. As years went on, he was allowed to watch some movies and play certain games, read graphic novels.  Of course, there are those "fast-forward" moments to bypass anything especially grotesque or salacious.

Now, it isn't necessarily the scary stories he is obsessed with. Instead, Jaxon is ALL ABOUT the special effects, costumes, and makeup! He is incredibly artistic having made his own masks and sculpting custom props with skills that are certainly advanced for his age. His uncle has helped him with projects, but Jaxon has taught himself a lot by watching tutorials on YouTube and figuring it out through trial and error. Very impressive! Jaxon also loves visiting Halloween stores in town and some of his favorite costumes are from locally owned and operated, Ghostly Productions.

Jaxon has recently entered a huge online competition called Face of Horror.  Hundreds of folks from all over the country are vying for the chance to meet Kane Hodder AKA Jason Voorhees! One of the most famous horror villains from Jaxon's all-time favorite movie, Friday the 13th. Jaxon said that Jason is his favorite because "he gets "killed" but ALWAYS comes back to life. He is strong, tall, loves his mother, and has a hard time relating to anyone else." Loves his mother! How adorable and hilarious.

That's not all, if he wins, he will get to FLY TO L.A. to participate in a photoshoot with Hodder for Rue Morgue Magazine at the infamous Woodbury House from American Horror Story and True Blood.

He will also get to participate in special effects workshops with some of the best movie makeup artists in the game. That is right up Jaxon's alley. He is already so talented, can you imagine what a game-changer this would be for him to have one-on-one instruction from legit magic makers? Look at this Five Nights at Freddy's character mask he made himself.

Oh yeah, and he would win $13,000! No big deal! When asked what he would do with the money, this sweet guy said "Some of it I would use it to take my family on vacation and make memories because we don't get to do that stuff. I would probably spend on Jason and horror stuff, like alot. What's left over I would give to our homeless animal shelter. Plus open a savings account for when I'm older."

Jaxon has been doing amazing already bouncing between 3rd and 1st place in this first round of voting which ends at 10 PM CST on September 14th. Jamie told me, "When Jaxon got out of school yesterday and was told he was in 1st place, I've never seen so much excitement in him!" He has since bumped back down again, but I bet with our help, he can make it!

I scrolled through some of the other contestants and didn't see any other kiddos participating.  Wouldn't it be awesome if a 10-year-old from Owensboro beat all of those grown-ups?
