Greenville’s Newest Burger Spot Is Already Winning Over Local Diners

Last Saturday, we made the trip to Muhlenberg County to catch Yellow Banks perform. Before the music started, we needed to grab a bite to eat, so I did what a lot of people do. I opened Google and searched for the best place to eat in Muhlenberg County.

One restaurant kept popping up with glowing reviews: American Burger House in Greenville, a place I'd never even heard of. It's only been open about six months, so I was surprised how many people were already talking about it.

I'm glad we stopped!

American Burger House is located at 1253 U.S. Highway 62 West in Greenville and is owned by Mark and Nora Strifler. The menu covers a little of everything from burgers, chicken baskets, seafood, hot dogs, and a handful of shareables like mac bites and pickle fries. Since burgers, especially their smash burgers, are what they're becoming known for, that's the route we took.

We went with a classic smash burger, and it didn't disappoint. The food wasn't rushed to the table, which was perfectly fine, as everything is made fresh to order and you can taste the difference. The burger was juicy, the toppings were fresh, and the fries were hot and crispy.

While we were there, I had the chance to visit with Nora and learn a little about how American Burger House came to be.

Before opening the restaurant, she and her husband Mark owned the Treasure House antique store that occupied the building. It took them nearly three years to sell everything by using Facebook Marketplace, eBay, and every other avenue they could think of before they could begin transforming the space. Opening a restaurant had always been Mark's dream.

Nora said they wanted to focus on fresh ingredients from day one, especially their burger meat. Their goal was simple. Serve quality food that people will come back for.

When I asked what customers love to order besides the burgers, Nora didn't hesitate.

"The Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich," she said with a smile, adding that it's quickly become one of their most popular items. After hearing that, I already know what I'm ordering next time we stop by!

She also mentioned they're considering adding wings to the menu down the road, but they're still feeling that out as the business continues to grow.

After getting home, I read through more of the online reviews, and they echoed exactly what we experienced! Praise for the fresh, never-frozen food, the clean restaurant, and the hometown feel. Several reviewers mention the wait, but nearly all of them say it's worth it.

For us, it absolutely was!

American Burger House is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Closed Mondays. If the crowds and reviews are any indication, Mark, Nora, and their team are off to a fantastic start, and we'll be back for that hot chicken sandwich.
