It's officially baby season at Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden, and the newest arrival might be one of the cutest yet!

The zoo has announced the birth of a baby Humboldt penguin named Wensleydale, though they say his friends affectionately call him Dale.

According to Mesker Park Zoo, Dale was born back in February to penguin parents Prince and Calypso and is nearly ready to make his public debut at the zoo's Penguin Habitat.

Baby Penguin Will Soon Make His Public Debut

Zoo officials say guests will soon be able to visit Dale in person, though an exact date has not yet been announced.

The tiny penguin is the latest in what has become a very busy baby season at Evansville's Mesker Park Zoo, which has recently shared several animal birth announcements.

Based on the zoo's teasing social media post, it sounds like even more baby animals could be arriving later this year.

There are few things on the internet more universally capable of improving someone's mood than a precious baby penguin.

Humboldt Penguins are Native to South America

Humboldt penguins are native to the coastal regions of Peru and Chile, and are known for their distinctive black-and-white markings and social personalities.

Unlike penguins associated with Antarctic climates, Humboldt penguins typically live in milder coastal environments influenced by the cold Humboldt Current along South America's western coastline.

Many zoos across the country participate in conservation and breeding programs designed to help maintain healthy Humboldt penguin populations.

Mesker Park Zoo Continues Busy Baby Season

Mesker Park Zoo has been leaning hard into baby animal season lately, and the timing could not be better as we head into summer break and family outing season.

Between new animal arrivals, warmer weather, and school letting out soon, baby animals tend to become major crowd favorites this time of year.

If you suddenly find yourself planning a zoo trip specifically to see a baby penguin named Dale, you probably aren't alone.
