For a lot of people, TGI Fridays was more than just another chain restaurant.

It was a place for birthday dinners, happy hours after work, appetizers with friends, or a quick stop after a day of shopping at Eastland Mall.

Now that the chapter has come to an end.

According to Evansville 411 News, employees at the Evansville TGI Fridays were informed Tuesday morning that the restaurant has permanently closed, effective immediately.

Indiana's Last TGI Fridays

The Evansville restaurant, located at 800 N Green River Road at Eastland Mall, was the last remaining TGI Fridays in Indiana.

The location has also been removed from the company's website, confirming the closure.

A Longtime East Side Landmark

The restaurant had become one of the longtime anchor businesses at Eastland Mall.

Several years ago, it appeared the location might close before signing a last-minute lease extension that allowed it to remain open.

Unfortunately, that extension appears to have marked the restaurant's final chapter.

A Company That Has Faced Financial Challenges

The closure comes after several difficult years for the TGI Fridays brand.

The company has closed numerous restaurants nationwide while working through financial challenges, including bankruptcy proceedings and corporate restructuring.

While no additional information has been released about the Evansville location specifically, its closure follows a broader trend affecting many TGI Fridays restaurants across the country.

Another Familiar Name Disappears

Restaurant openings are always exciting.

Closings are a little different.

Even when it's a national chain, losing a longtime restaurant changes the landscape of the community, and in this particular case, the mall, too.

For many Evansville residents, TGI Fridays was simply one of those places that always seemed to be there.

Now another familiar name has disappeared from the East Side.
