I've heard so many different answers through the years, it's finally time to know the truth about fireworks in Illinois.
Are Fireworks Legal In Illinois?
As soon as the weather started to get better in Rockford, the firecrackers began in my neighborhood. Every weekend, it's like a mini fireworks show on my block. My neighbors must stock up during the offseason. The big question is are they legal in Illinois?

The Pyrotechnic Use Act ("PUA") in Illinois bans the sale, possession, and use of all “consumer fireworks.”
Fireworks Are Available For Sale In Other States
Even though fireworks are illegal in Illinois, many states allow them including Wisconsin. So the residents of Rockford can cross the state line into Beloit and get all the firecrackers they could ever want. It's so funny that there are stands right there on the border.

I would say that's a very good question. Especially, because many residents in Illinois travel to Wisconsin just to purchase fireworks. After hitting the stand and picking up their favorites, they turn around and come back to the Land of Lincoln. I've heard so many different answers, I finally wanted to find out the truth. I think it's fairly obvious.

The Illinois Pyrotechnic Use Act makes it illegal to have fireworks in your possession, transport them, or use them. This is a Class A Misdemeanor and could result in fines up to $2,500 or a year in prison.
Just in case you haven't gotten the hint yet. It is illegal to purchase fireworks in another state and bring them into Illinois.
