Beware of Dangerous Phishing Scam Targeting Illinois Residents
Just dropping in to share a new scam that Illinois residents started receiving this week. If you get a text that seems too good to be true, trust your gut.
One of the more "realistic" looking scams recently has been targeting Illinois I-PASS users with a fake text message about an "outstanding balance on their account". The link it takes you to looks so legitimate, even the most cautious people could fall victim.

Yet again, another phishing scam is going around you need to know about, especially if you're a customer with the Rock Valley Credit Union.
Text Message Scam Targeting Illinois Residents - Here's What You Need To Know
A Facebook user, Nate Riggins, posted that he received a text stating that his "RVCU credit card attempted a $106 purchase at Walmart Did I make this purchase Y or N?".
He said, "it looked very real so I replied no and within 3 min. I received a phone call from a person stating it was RVCU saying they would reduce my spending to $70".

Toward the end of the call, the representative asked for his full account number and that's when he started getting suspicious. Next day, Nate gets an email from RVCU addressing the scam.
Customers are instructed to hang up on the fake representative and notify RVCU at (815) 282-0300 if you do get this scam text.
Scammers have truly made it a full time job to take advantage of peoples' financial situations. From stealing card information online, to gift card blackmailing and counterfeit money scams, these are just a few others you should watch for!
