Indiana’s Favorite Star Wars Movie Isn’t What You Think
We now know which Star Wars film Hoosiers prefer, and it might just add more fuel to the fire of an already turbulent fanbase.

Star Wars may just be the best film franchise ever created. Well, that’s my opinion anyway. I've been watching the films, collecting the figurines, and reading the expanded universe books for as long as I can remember. In essence, Star Wars might just be my own personal little happy place.
The franchise, created by George Lucas in the 1970s, has fans all across the globe. While they share a common interest, the fan base itself is divided on just about every issue and aspect surrounding the various stories. When it comes to the nine films in the Skywalker Saga, everyone has their favorites—including those in Indiana.
My Favorite Star Wars Movie Is Controversial
Before we get to the overall favorite Star Wars flick in Indiana, I want to mention my own personal top pick. Despite criticism from folks over the years, the prequels remain my favorite films in the franchise. Specifically, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, which hit theaters in May 2005. My dad took me to see it for my 6th birthday, and it was the first PG-13 movie I remember seeing.

It's a memory I find myself thinking about more and more as I get older. I had never seen a movie theater so packed. There were kids dressed in Star Wars costumes, with some even bringing their own lightsabers. (I believe this was before movie theaters began discouraging that.) We sat in the back row at AMC in Vincennes and went to a late showing on a weekend. I nearly fell asleep toward the end, but fortunately, I was able to power through.
Indiana's Favorite Star Wars Movie
Unlike my controversial pick, Indiana as a whole actually prefers one of the classics. According to Mental Floss, an analysis of fan pages determined each state’s favorite Star Wars movie. Indiana's, along with 13 other states, just so happens to be Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, which was the first piece of Star Wars content ever created. It hit theaters in May 1977 and made $775 million worldwide. The film had a production cost of about $11 million.
