For the first time ever, animal shelters across the country will be coming together for a 24-hour Shelter Slumber Pawty, including southern Indiana's own It Takes a Village No-Kill Rescue.

Who Is It Takes a Village No-Kill Rescue

It Takes a Village, or ITV as they are locally known, is a 501-c3 non-profit that was first formed in 2010. Two years later, in 2012, It Takes a Village opened the first no-kill shelter in Vanderburgh County, Indiana. In 2019, It Takes a Village expanded its operation by opening a second no-kill facility in Spencer County, Indiana. The two facilities serve homeless animals in southern Indiana and northwestern Kentucky and It Takes a Village has helped nearly 10,000 animals since it was first formed in 2010.

My Relationship with ITV

Anyone who knows me at all knows that I love animals. While I cannot personally take home every homeless animal that I see shared by my animal rescue friends, I do try to use my talents, my voice, and my platform to help those animals as often as I can. In fact, I've been helping It Takes a Village since they first opened their brick and motor rescue back in 2012.

Giving Back to It Takes a Village

The first time I helped out with one of their events, they put me in a dunking booth and people paid money to try to submerge me in water. Fortunately for me, they have changed their fundraising up a bit, and I haven't been dunked in several years. When my friends at ITV reached out to me a couple of weeks ago to ask if I would participate in their Shelter Slumber Pawty, I immediately said, "Yes!"

Shelter Slumber Pawty at ITV

On Saturday, March 25th, It Takes a Village No-Kill Rescue will join shelters and rescues around the country as part of the Shelter Slumber Pawty. For hours on end, ITV volunteers and supporters, including myself, will be taking turns at the rescue facility walking dogs, promoting shelter pets online, and hopefully helping facilitate some happily ever afters for these animals.

ITV averages over 175 animals relying on us to provide them with food, housing, veterinary care and, ultimately, find them a loving forever home.  Although we do not discriminate based on breed, size or color, we have a particular interest in helping bully breeds, black animals, senior animals, animals with medical needs, lost animals and other “hard-to-place” animals.

Our operations costs are over $600,000 each year.  We rely heavily on fundraisers and donors to continue our life-saving work.

You Can Slumber Pawty Too!

If you would like to participate in the Slumber Pawty or donate to It Takes a Village, you can visit ShelterSlumberPawty.com. ITV hopes to raise $5,000 with this event. That money will go toward the almost $600,000 that the rescue spends in operating costs to provide food, shelter, and veterinary care for the animals. In 2022, It Takes a Village helped 1,435 animals! Follow It Takes a Village on Facebook and watch for live videos from the event. You can also stop by the ITV rescue center at 1417 N. Stockwell Road for the event on March 25th between 10 am and 10 pm to make a donation or to meet and adopt your new best friend!
