Ford Recalls Nearly 550,000 Vehicles for Faulty Gear Shifter
Ford has issued a recall of nearly 550,000 vehicles after discovering a fault in the shifter that could cause the vehicle to roll while in Park.
The company announced earlier this week the discovery of a faulty "bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission" which "may detach from the transmission." What does that mean? It means that even though it appears you put it in park (or reverse, or drive) it's actually not. It may still be in whatever gear you had it in before that.
The recall applies to the following models according to the official recall:
- 2014 Ford Fusion vehicles built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant between June 18, 2013 and Sept. 15, 2013
- 2014-16 Ford Fusion vehicles built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant between June 2, 2014 and Aug. 31, 2015
- 2013-14 Ford Fusion vehicles built at Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly Plant between May 15, 2013 and Sept. 15, 2013
- 2014-16 Ford Fusion vehicles built at Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly Plant between June 2, 2014 and Aug. 31, 2015
- 2013-14 Ford Escape vehicles built at Louisville Assembly Plant between May 15, 2013 and Sept. 15, 2013
The company also announced it was not aware of any injuries related to the recall and encourages owners to engage the parking brake anytime they put the vehicle in park as a safeguard.
If your vehicle falls under one of categories listed above, call your dealer, and reference recall number 18S20 to set up an appointment to have the bushing replaced free of charge.
