If you enjoy the sport but don't like the taste of venison, or simply have a surplus of deer meat already, there is a way to ensure this natural resource is utilized. Hunters can actually donate their deer carcasses to help feed Hoosiers in need. According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), one deer can provide 200 meals for just one family.

In 2020 alone, more than 20,000 pounds of venison were donated to Hoosiers. After harvesting and field-dressing a deer, hunters wishing to contribute can drop off their deer at a participating processor. The processor will then distribute the venison to Indiana food banks. Processing fees are funded through the Sportsmen’s Benevolence Fund. You can find a participating processor near you by clicking HERE.
