Wearing These Four Colors Will Attract Mosquitoes in Indiana
Unless you love mosquitoes, you might want to reconsider your wardrobe this summer in Indiana.
When is Indiana's Mosquito Season?
Mosquito season for us here in Indiana kicks off in April and runs through September. That's when the temperature and conditions will be just right for these pests. Over time, mosquito season in Indiana has increased quite a bit. Mosquitoes are thriving in our area for up to 21 days longer this year. That means that Hoosiers will be seeing more mosquitoes for longer periods. With all of the rain and heat we have experienced lately, that has caused those pesky little pests to come out in full force.
I don't know about you, but I always have a BAD mosquito problem in my yard. I can't even walk outside for two minutes without having to swat those pests away. It's a nuisance that nobody wants to deal with. Maybe you have tried citronella candles while sitting on your patio. That helps some. Perhaps you have lemongrass or peppermint plants in your yard to help keep the mosquitoes away. Somehow, it seems that they are all only so effective. So, if you are tired of getting eaten up by those skeeters, perhaps you should consider wearing something else when you go outside.
Colors that Attract Mosquitoes
Before we get into these colors, you might want to prepare yourself for a new wardrobe. If you're like me, the majority of your shirts are colors that mosquitoes are attracted to. According to a study by the University of Washington, there are certain colors that repel mosquitoes and others that attract them. Their study says, "The mosquito’s sense of smell influences how it responds to visual cues/colors. However, this color preference only occurs in the presence of carbon dioxide (CO2), which we exhale when we breathe."

While mosquitoes respond to our breath, sweat, and body temperature, eliminating the colors that attract them in the first place could help keep them away from you. So, if you want to try something to keep those mosquitoes away, avoid wearing the following colors:
1. Red
2. Orange
3. Cyan
4. Black
Colors That Mosquitoes AREN'T Attracted To
So, if seeing that makes you think that you need a new wardrobe, you are in luck. Here are the colors that you should wear outside so that mosquitoes don't swarm around you.
1. Green
2. Purple
3. Blue
4. White
