Chipotle Has Nurses Check To See If Employees Are Actually Sick Or Just Hungover
Better read the fine print before you accept your next job!
We've all been there, had too much fun and had to call in "sick" the next day. A self inflicted sick day nonetheless. Personally, I have only done this once (maybe twice) and I was never asked more than a couple questions. Most of the time you either take a non-paid day or a sick day depending on where you work. Chipotle does things a little differently.
According to Business Insider, "Chipotle has nurses check whether some employees who call in sick are genuinely unwell or just hungover." CEO Brian Niccol said, "The nurse validates that it's not a hangover — you're really sick — and then we pay for the day off to get healthy again." The purpose for this isn't to limit the "fun" employees are having and micro-manage fun time, it's to keep their restaurants clean and as germ free as possible. Not all "sick call ins" are sent to the nurse but the more severe cases are pending what you are telling your manager.
