Bally’s Evansville Becomes First U.S. Casino to Achieve StormReady Accreditation
Evansville Mayor, Lloyd Winnecke, proclaims August 24th as 'Bally’s Evansville Storm Ready Day' in the City of Evansville.
Bally's Evansville Makes History
In a significant stride towards enhancing community safety and disaster preparedness, Bally’s Evansville has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first casino in the United States to receive StormReady accreditation from the National Weather Service. This prestigious recognition underscores the casino's commitment to safeguarding lives and property, not only within its premises but also in the surrounding community.
What is the StormReady Program?
The StormReady program, administered by the National Weather Service, equips communities with essential communication and safety skills required to effectively respond to a range of extreme weather events. From the destructive force of tornadoes to the challenges posed by winter storms, the program imparts critical knowledge to emergency managers and personnel. These skills are vital in the crucial moments leading up to, during, and after such events.
To be officially StormReady, a community must:
- Establish a 24-hour warning point and emergency operations center
- Have more than one way to receive severe weather warnings and forecasts and to alert the public
- Create a system that monitors weather conditions locally
- Promote the importance of public readiness through community seminars
- Develop a formal hazardous weather plan, which includes training severe weather spotters and holding emergency exercises.
Hazardous Weather Best Practices
By receiving the StormReady accreditation, Bally’s Evansville has demonstrated its dedication to adopting best practices in hazardous weather operations. The casino's emergency management team now operates with a comprehensive framework of guidelines, enabling them to make informed decisions that could potentially save lives and protect property during adverse weather conditions.
Serving the Community
As the first casino to receive this esteemed accreditation, Bally’s Evansville is setting a commendable example for the gaming and hospitality industry. Through its dedication to the StormReady program, Bally's Evansville has not only elevated its own emergency response capabilities but has also strengthened the collaborative fabric of the community it serves.
