Is it a surprise that Carrie Underwood was nominated for CMA Entertainer of the Year? On one hand, no female had been nominated since 2016, so yeah, that's a surprising change. On the other hand, she earned it!

With a massive tour and successful album, the boys' club trend is ridiculous, if not shameful.

She didn't make our list of CMA Awards nominations snubs and surprises because doing so would normalize the engrained sexism that's been on the forefront of the minds of fans, artists and the media for so many years. There are some positive takeaways in that area from the full list of 2019 CMA Awards nominees. In 2019 there are eight women nominated in the major variable categories (Entertainer, Album, Single and Song of the Year), compared to just three in 2018. For the first time since 2003 a female is nominated in the Musician of the Year category. This feels like progress!

The Entertainer of the Year category also brings three major snubs, however: Jason Aldean and Luke Combs fans have the right to be angry. But fans of Dan + Shay and Dierks Bentley should be pleased with how Wednesday morning's announcement played out.

Who do you think should have gotten some more love from CMA voters? Sound off at our Twitter page or in the comments section below. The 2019 CMA Awards are on ABC at 8PM ET on Nov. 13.
