Authorities found a disturbing situation involving wild animals in a Sandwich, Illinois home. More than 20 wild animals including several who were deceased have been removed and police are trying to determine if charges are justified.

Fox 2 Now in St. Louis reports that the Illinois Department of Natural Resources found a 33-year-old Dekalb, Illinois woman who allegedly claimed she was a wildlife rehabilitator. They now believe the license she has is not valid.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources added more details in a press release. Here's a summary:

  • More than 20 wild animals were found including 12 raccoons, seven opossums, two squirrels, two turtles, one chipmunk, and one skunk
  • 3 snakes were deceased
  • Several animals did not have any water including rabbits
  • No charges have been filed as of this time

It gets worse. They announced the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is now involved as they discovered a child lives in the home and they report conditions were unhealthy.

This incident reportedly happened at a home in the 1000 block of Spruce Street in Sandwich, Illinois in Dekalb County.

The recovered animals have now been transferred to a professional licensed animal rehabilitation facility while authorities continue their investigation. The woman's name has not been released at this time.
