It has just been reported that the New York Yankees have cut Preston Mattingly who has been with the club after signing a minor league contract in January. Mattingly of course, is the son of former Yankee All-Star and current Los Angeles Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly. The 24-year-old Mattingly had been playing spring training games for the Yankees Double-A Trenton before being cut today. In six professional seasons, Mattingly never reached the Major Leagues after being the 31st pick of the 2006 draft by the Dodgers coming out of Central High School.

Mattingly finished last season with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, a Dodger Class-A affiliate, hitting .232 with five home runs, 19 RBIs and five doubles. No word on what Mattingly plans to do next.
