I'm getting married in a couple weeks, and this is something I've never done before, so I also kind of have no idea what I'm doing.  I was thinking today about how the whole point of having a wedding, is to celebrate Sam and I getting married, which means we should probably get a marriage license so this thing is actually legal.  I've never had to obtain a wedding license before, so I Googled how to do it, and in the process I've learned a whole lot about weird marriage laws...

If you're wondering how to obtain a marriage license in the Tri-State area, this website is really helpful! Almost a little too helpful, because thanks to this website I learned some very interesting wedding laws around here.

Like for instance, in the state of Indiana it is LEGAL to marry your  first cousin as long as both parties are at least 65 years of age.  Which is an oddly specific law... In Illinois it's the same, only 50 years of age or older.  However in Kentucky it is not legal to marry your first or second cousin.

So this got me wondering about some other weird marriage laws, and here's a few weird ones I found:

  • In Iowa it is illegal for a man with a mustache to kiss a woman in public
  • In Idaho it is illegal for gifts of candy to be LESS than 50lbs (I'm actually not mad about this law)
  • In Vermont for a woman to wear false teeth, she must have her husbands permission.
  • In Kentucky it is illegal for a woman to marry the same man 4 times.
  • In Hartford CT, it's illegal to kiss your wife in public on Sundays

So there are some really weird marriage laws from around the U.S.! Make sure you aren't breaking any!
