Roadside Attractions
Indiana's motto is the "crossroads of America" and there is no shortage of things to see on those roads. From a chainsaw garden to a house of bells, there are many unique stops along the crossroads of the Hoosier state. One of those stops happens to be a world record holder, and it all started with a ball and a single coat of paint.
The World's Largest Ball of Paint
Who knew watching paint dry could be so interesting? The world's largest ball of paint is located in Alexandria Indiana. According to RoadsideAmerica.com the World's Largest Ball of Paint started out as a baseball. However, after almost 30,000 coats of paint later, the baseball is gigantic! People from all over stop by to add a layer of paint to the famous paint-ball, and get a photo with it.
There's even merch you can purchase that has mugs and shirts saying you added a layer to the world's largest ball of paint, and you'll get a commemorative certificate. It's not every day that you can say you've contributed to a world record!
From their website, BallOfPaint.Freehosting.Net:
The Ball of paint started with an ordinary baseball. Yes, that same baseball you have sitting on your garage shelf in a mitt waiting for someone to play catch with it. Imagine that baseball today with over 27,600 layers of paint on it and weighing in at over 8,200 pounds. That's what Mike and Glenda, along with many family, friends and guest have been doing for the past 45 years. This ball is truely amazing and you must see it to believe it.
