There's a new scam going around the Tri-State, and this one involves someone falsely representing 99.5 WKDQ.

There are so many possibilities when it comes to ways people can get scammed nowadays. It's honestly kind of scary, especially for the elderly, who typically fall victim more often. These scammers have gotten very creative throughout the years. It's hard to not only keep up with them, but it has gotten even harder to decipher what is legit and what is a scam. That's why we want to make sure that you know about a new scam that involves us here at 99.5 WKDQ.

99.5 WKDQ Scam Circulating in the Evansville Area

It has been brought to our attention that someone is trying to scam local businesses out of money, and they are falsely representing 99.5 WKDQ. This scam sounds legit to an unsuspecting person, but we want to set the facts straight so that nobody gives this individual money. Here's what we know.

At least two local businesses have received a phone call from a Larry Stevens. Larry says that he works for WKDQ here in Evansville and is looking for local businesses to sponsor programming on Vietnam Veterans that WKDQ will be airing in March, April, and May. He'll mention sponsorship package prices and try to make the sale. Don't buy it!

While we do love our veterans here at WKDQ, we do not currently have any on air veterans specials in the works. Furthermore, I have worked here for over a decade, and in that time, there has never been anyone named Larry Stevens who worked for us. If you receive a phone call from Larry, please hang up and DO NOT GIVE HIM YOUR HARD-EARNED MONEY. Should you find yourself getting a call from someone representing us or any business that sounds sketchy, it's always best to hang up and call that company directly. In this case, it would be our business line 812-425-4226.
