For the 48th year, thousands of classic, restored street rods will rumble into Evansville for the annual Frog Follies at the Vanderburgh County 4-H Fairgrounds on Friday, August 25th through Sunday, August 27th (2023).

Once again, this year's Follies is expected to draw over 3,000 street rods from across the country, all of which were originally built before and up to 1949 making Frog Follies the largest car show in the country for vehicles of that age range.

More Than Just a Car Show

In addition to the vintage cars, trucks, and other vehicles that will be on display, the event will also feature an arts and crafts show, a swap meet featuring over 150 booths selling car parts and accessories for all makes and models, and the always entertaining Celebrity Frog Races on Saturday afternoon where recognizable faces and voices from local TV and radio stations, along with other well-known local figures will compete to see who can get their real, live bullfrog to cross the finish line first. Not to brag, but someone from WKDQ has won the race the last two years (Leslie Morgan in 2021 and me in 2022). Will we make it a three-peat? You'll have to come out and see.

The three-day event also serves as a fundraiser for the Easterseals Rehabilitation Center on Bellemeade Avenue in Evansville. The Center will be on-site throughout the weekend selling half-pot tickets and will receive a portion of the proceeds collected from admissions.

Tickets are $5 per person at the gate. Children 12 and under are free.

LOOK: See how much gasoline cost the year you started driving

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

Read on to explore the cost of gas over time and rediscover just how much a gallon was when you first started driving.
