Willard Library Hosting Stories From the Grave

September is here and we're all gearing up for cooler weather and Halloween time. It's my favorite time of year, as I know it's many others. One of my favorite things about this time of year is how many event center around the haunted/creepier side of things. I love learning about history, but I especially love when that history is a tad creepy.

Willard Library is hosting a really cool event called Stories From the Grave. The event will feature a guest speaker who is very knowledgeable about local graves, the Superintendent of Cemeteries for the City of Evansville, Chris Cooke. Stories From the Grave will take place on Ocotober 13th @ 6:30. Due to COVID-19 they're limiting guest capacity to only 30 people, but they will be streaming it online, so if you aren't comfortable being there in person, you can safely watch from home. Cemeteries are more than mere collections of stones listing names and dates of those interred in their final resting places. While their complete histories cannot be portrayed on the engraved monuments, everyone has a story. In his position as Superintendent of Cemeteries, Chris has found some of the more interesting and entertaining stories about the people who once in Evansville, Indiana, including Evansville’s namesake, General Robert M. Evans. Whether they were industrialists, shopkeepers, teachers, soldiers, murderers or victims; rich or poor, they all have stories to tell. Some of the stories may curl your hair without a perm—just in time for the Halloween season
