Christmas will come and go, and there's a chance that even though they'll have a slew of new toys to play with, your kids are going to start going a little crazy with cabin fever in the days between Christmas and the start of school. Have no fear, Wesselman Woods is here with a "flurry" of kid-friendly activities to save what's left of your sanity after the holidays.

Activities will be offered December 20th through the 30th and will include crafts and story times, as well as science-based activities and meet-and-greets with a few of the animals that call Wesselman's Woods home. All activities are included with admission to the Nature Center.

Thursday, December 20th

  • Snowy World: 10:00 – 10:45  PM
  • Learn about the science of snow & how animals stay warm on snowy days.
  • Recommended for Ages 4 & up
  • Animal Tracks: 1:00 - 1:45 PM   
  • Learn to identify animal tracks and make a track to take home.
  • Recommended for Ages 6 & up

Friday, December 21st

  • Winter Solstice: 10:00 - 10:45 AM
  • Learn about the science and folklore of the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year.
  • Recommended for Ages 6  & up
  • Gourd Birdhouse Painting: 1:00 - 2:00 PM   
  • Paint a gourd birdhouse with your family, to give as a gift or hang in your yard.
  • Recommended for Ages 4 & up.

Saturday, December 22nd

  • Winter Discovery Hike: 10:00 - 11:00 AM
  • Discover the stories the woods can tell us.
  • Recommended for Ages 8 & up
  • Hibernation & Habitats: 1:00 - 1:30 PM   
  • Learn about the habitats of Wesselman Woods & how animals survive the winter.
  • Recommended for Ages 4 & up

Sunday, December 23rd

  • Music of the Birds:1:00 - 1:45 PM
  • Discover how birds sing and learn a few of their songs.
  • Recommended for Ages 6 & up

  • Learn about nature’s nutcrackers and the nuts they eat.

  • Learn about the furry creatures that inhabit Wesselman Woods.
  • Recommended for Ages 6 & up

Friday, December 28th
