Allow us to introduce you to this week's Pet of the Week from the Vanderburgh Humane Society, Chi Chi! See her in action!

This kitty needs some positive vibes (and, of course, donations.) She was brought in yesterday, 7/24, with her (4) two-day-old kittens. The family taking care of her was calling her Chi Chi. (“Chee chee”.) She was clearly in distress when she arrived. Low body temp, eyes dilated, painful abdomen, and overall very uncomfortable & in pain. We gave her a small dose of pain meds which immediately calmed her down, as you can see. We aren’t sure what happened to her. Initially we suspected that maybe one of her kittens was not successfully born, and was still inside her, but our vet determined that was not the case. Right now our medical team is thinking she may have ingested some sort of toxin, so they’ve provided fluids and are trying to get her body temp up.It’s touch and go right now. But we are hoping she pulls through not just for her own sake, but because her babies have the best chance with her here.

Right now she’s too fragile to be in a foster home, but if she improves then the whole family may need a foster later. You can always foster a different group in the meantime so we continue to open up cages for kitties coming in. Or come adopt! $10 off all dog, cat, & rabbit adoptions this weekend at our Hairy Pawter event.

Donations can be made for Chi Chi’s care, and her kittens’, at www.vhslifesaver.org/donate. We think she’s only about 2 or 3 years old.

We now have several litters of kittens in foster care and even a few at the shelter ready for adoption, so the “Kitten Season Please Help” plea begins now. Foster homes are needed. For kittens by themselves, and also for moms with kittens. Fostering is 100% free. We provide everything INCLUDING food (not all organizations do.) Fostering is also not indefinite with us. The goal is for you to have the kittens as short a time as possible until they can come back to the shelter for adoption — the littler they are, the more people want them. You will not have the same foster animals for years on end.

All the info on fostering is at www.vhslifesaver.org/foster.

Wanna watch cats playing LIVE 24/7 (if they’re not sleeping) on their new Petcube Play in the Cageless Cat Lounge. Download the free Petcube app, create an account, and find “VHS Cat Lounge.” The camera runs all the time and if you turn your phone to landscape, you can control the built-in laser pointer and play with the kittens!

Get more info on Iris or other adoptable pets at vhslifesaver.org!
