Meet Retired Navy Chief Petty Officer SW Scott Gebhart

I was working at VFW Post 3418 in Boonville, Indiana, when this incredibly joyous couple, Scott Gebhart and his girlfriend, Dawn Gillett, walked in. I instantly bonded with Dawn because we share a spirit-animal connection and the same crazy energy. As I got to know them, I knew we'd be lifelong friends, and not just because I have a soft spot for veterans. We had a lot in common! I went to school with Gebhart's daughter; he spent many years working at the same place my father did, and he's a veteran, like many of my family members. Then Scott mentions he had a liver transplant, and I thought what in the world could have happened to this kind soul to deserve that? Check out the full interview below to hear the whole story!

How Scott Gebhart Ended Up In The Navy

You'll get the full story from Gebhart himself in the interview below, but what you won't hear about is how awesome a person he is. When he walks in the room, he brings the vibes and good times with his sunny disposition, a rare trait for many veterans. Originally from West Virginia, Scott's post-military life settled him in Southern  Indiana, where we've claimed him since 1996. His 22 years of service to this country, however, took him all over the world. Stationed aboard a Naval Underway Fighting Machine, Gebhart has been to Pearl Harbor, Japan, Russia, and more. As a machinist, Gebhart maintained and operated the boilers, engines, pumps, and electricity generators. The SW behind his title means he was an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist. Check out our interview below for some insight into the Navy life of Scott Gebhart, as well as the gallery of pictures from throughout Gebhart's service.
