Veteran Tribute Week: Meet Retired Air Force Master Sergeant Jim Cundiff
Meet Retired Air Force Master Sergeant Jim Cundiff
Jim Cundiff has been all over this world, but the retired Air Force veteran of 22 years decided to settle in Boonville, Indiana. He and his wife, Gladys, have called the Warrick County town home for 29 years now, after retiring from the Air Force. I was looking for a part-time job years ago when my friend called me and told me to go see this Jimmy guy, the Quartermaster at VFW Post 3418 in Boonville. The first day I met Jimmy, he said he recognized my name, as many do from my years of radio. After telling Jimmy I was on 99.5 WKDQ, with all the honesty in his heart, Jimmy told me he thoroughly disliked listening to me. Needless to say, we've been friends since that day, and he's become a big WKDQ listener ever since my return to radio. Check out some of the cool pictures from his time in service, as well as our full interview, below.
What Twenty-Two Years Of Service Taught Jim Cundiff
Jim married his wife, Gladys, and started a family, but times were tough, as he explains in the interview, and he decided, literally on the spot, to join the service. He had always been interested in the Air Force, but no one ever dreamed he would just up and join, especially his wife. For the next two decades, Cundiff traveled across the world, defending his homeland in countries such as England, Iceland, Turkey, Japan, Okinawa, the Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia, among others. Eventually, he became a Master Sergeant and supervised multiple soldiers with important tasks such as loading bombs. It takes a strong family to stick together through 22 years of that, but Gladys Cundiff was built for tough. Today, the Cundiffs call Boonville, Indiana, home and are proud members of their community in many facets. You can catch Jimmy Jam, as I call him, on the golf course, and Gladys most likely at a church event. If the military taught him anything, it's the importance of a good wife and family at home, and I believe Jimmy would agree with that. It was an honor and a pleasure to welcome them to the WKDQ studio. Thank you for our freedom, Cundiff family. Check out the full interview and some of Jim's service adventure pictures below.
