One Evansville, Indiana, landmark found itself on a list of the 100 ugliest public buildings in the U.S.

The Empire State Building, the White House, the Willis Tower, and the World's Largest Basket Building in Ohio are all buildings that you can look at in amazement. As you know, we have so many buildings scattered throughout the United States that are simply breathtaking. I'm sure you can think of some even here locally. However, for every beautiful building we have, there's also one that can be a bit unsightly.

Some architecture in the United States could be considered "ugly." More than 3,000 people were asked to vote on the 100 ugliest public buildings in the U.S. in a new list put out by the New Jersey Real Estate Network. Two buildings in Indiana made the cut, and one happens to be right here in Evansville.

Indiana Has Two of the Ugliest Buildings in America

The first Indiana building on this list comes in at number 63. It's the St. Joseph County-City Building in South Bend. According to the Indy Star:

The 14-story St. Joseph County-City Building was built in 1967 to replace the City Hall that would be demolished in 1970.

The South Bend Tribune reported in July 2025 that county officials are considering selling the building and relocating the services currently housed there due to costly repairs and upgrades.

The second building on this list comes to us from right here in Evansville, Indiana. While it's somewhat toward the bottom of the list, the fact that it's still on there says something about what people must think of it. The Evansville Civic Center Complex ranked 76th on the list of the ugliest public buildings.

Those in the area know all about the Civic Center Complex. The building houses city and county government officials, agencies, courts, school administration, and the Evansville Police Department.
