Toys R Us Returning to Evansville in a Big Way!

Everyone loves a good comeback story, but this comeback may be the greatest comeback in comeback history!

Growing up in the 90s, every time we were in Evansville, I'd always beg my parents to take me to Toys R Us. It was seriously the coolest place for kids. I remember being a kid and going into Toys R Us and just being in awe of the big displays, and there were so many toys I couldn't even wrap my head around it! Each year, when the Christmas Playbook would come out, I remember I'd make my Christmas "list" by circling just about every item in the Toys R Us catalog. I was a proud Toys R Us Kid!

However, all good things must come to an end. In 2018, Toys R Us announced its bankruptcy and closed its doors for good in Evansville. Then, nearly four years after announcing bankruptcy, Toys R Us announced a partnership with Macy's department stores that would see the one-time toy retail giant return to its brick-and-mortar roots with new storefronts inside existing Macy's locations. If you have been to Macy's in Eastland Mall in Evansville, you've probably seen it. The Toys R Us section in Macy's is on a much smaller scale than what some people would like...but there's more hope on the way for Toys R Us kids!

Toys R Us is Making a Comeback in Evansville, Indiana!

Earlier this month, our friends at Evansville 411 News broke the news that Toys R Us would be opening a standalone store inside Eastland Mall near Center Court. No other details were available at that time, but it got the whole area excited!

Well, we now have more details on Toys R Us returning to Evansville. According to Evansville 411 News, Toys R Us will be opening a location in a portion of the former H&M spot in Eastland Mall, next to Aeropostale. Go! Retail Group (home of Go Calendars Games & Toys Eastland Mall) is behind the opening of the new location in Eastland Mall.

Here's the thing, though...Toys R Us has been opening flagship stores and holiday shops across the country, but when it comes to the Evansville location, it appears that we will not be getting a flagship store open year-round. The new Toys R Us inside Eastland Mall will be a seasonal holiday shop, according to one source. That, of course, means that we will get to have a Toys R Us location only around the holidays. Evansville 411 News says that the store hopes to be open by early November 2025.
