Because parents don't get snow days.

There's nothing worse than that last-minute school cancellation rolling across the TV screen minutes before you head out the door...at least for parents, that is. Unfortunately, parents don't get snow days, and that can really put them in a bind.

But, fear not, because Owensboro Parks and Recreation Administrative Center is adopting a new "day camp" that students can attend in the event of inclement weather. Parents still get to work on time and the children can have a fun-filled day with their friends.

Basically you register your child for at least 5 snow days per school year. The cost is $80 for the 5 days, and a $16 per day refund will be issued if fewer than 5 snow days are missed in the child’s school district. There is an additional $35 yearly registration fee you'll pay, but it's also good for all day camps offered by the Owensboro Parks & Recreation Department.

The camp is offered to children ages: 5-13. Camp doors are open from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., with an early room available at 6:40 a.m. for an additional $2/day. Students will need to bring a sack lunch with them each day, but a morning and afternoon snack will be provided.
