Over the summer, O'Charley's on Evansville's east side has been hosting a live performance series giving you the chance to see and hear several up-and-coming songwriters from Nashville and other cities. Even though summer is officially over and fall is underway doesn't mean the music stops. The series continues this Thursday (Ocotber 12th, 2023) with another rising start out of Music City, Dan Smalley.

O'Charley's Summer Songwriter's Cafe

The Summer Songwriter's Cafe was started by O'Charley's back in 2020 as a virtual series since everyone was stuck at home and couldn't go anywhere thanks to the pandemic, and featured artists such as Lee Brice, Tenille Arts, and others. The series has continued post-pandemic at locations around the country giving the previously mentioned up-and-coming singer/songwriters a chance to perform and possibly gain a new fan in you.

This week's songwriter is Dan Smalley. Dan was born in Alaska to a military family who relocated to Shreveport, Louisiana when he was young. Dan's passion for music was honed during his days growing up in the bayou where he pulled inspiration from not only country music legends such as Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard but also from R&B greats such as Al Green and Ray Charles and infused them with his own spin on Louisiana blues. All of which you can hear in his single, "Born and Raised (On The Bayou)."

Dan also isn't afraid to show his softer side as you can hear in his latest single, "Only A Girl."

Since moving to Nashville, his songs have been recorded by Ashley McBride and Dillion Carmichael with Dan joining Ashley for a few dates on her tour earlier this year.
