Northern Indiana Town Worth The Trip For Toboggan Run
Pacogan State Park Home To Historic Toboggan Run
I spent almost five years near Angola, Indiana, and even hiked in Pokagon State Park once. I had no idea this state park had a historical Toboggan Run. Thought up in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps Company 556, they were simply bored and decided to build a wooden toboggan run for their own fun. No clue what a toboggan is? Check out the video below. Modified many times over the years, the original run had a curve that led to the lake, but that was the most excitement you got from it. The following year, the run was straightened to increase speed. In 1938, a tower was erected near the Inn, and a second track was added in 1940. The true upgrade came in 1971 when the slide was first refrigerated. That's correct, the slide is now available for use from November through March. Renovations, improvements, and upgrades have continued over the years, increasingly improving and adding on to the winter adventure. Here's more on the additional work completed in 1998.
Details and Information For Toboggan Run
The run opened for the season at the end of November and will be open through March 1, 2026. Check out holiday hours and scheduling here. In addition to the run, the park also offers cross-country skiing and snowshoe rentals. Find out everything you need to know about Pokagon State Park on their website.
