These New Country Songs Have the Same Title but Different Vibes
Two new country songs were released in late 2024 with the same title, but that's the only thing they have in common.
One morning, while driving to work, a song called “5 to 9'” came on the radio. It was one of those songs I instantly liked from the very first few lyrics. I wasn’t paying enough attention to catch the artist's name, but after a quick search later in the day, I thought I had found it.
After sitting down to give the song another listen, it turned out to be the complete opposite of what I had heard that morning. Upon further investigation, I realized I had been looking at two songs with the same title. What’s even more interesting is that they were released within a few short months of each other.
Walker Hayes - 5 to 9
In the fall of 2024, Walker Hayes, known for his big No. 1 hit "Fancy Like," released a song called "5 to 9." At the end of the first verse, Hayes gives a nod to Dolly Parton and her hit "9 to 5," but claims he'd rather "sweat" from five at night until nine in the morning. The song is about his wife, but unfortunately, it didn’t garner as much attention as his previous hit in 2021.

Hudson Westbrook - 5 to 9
Shortly before Hayes released his song, Hudson Westbrook dropped a track with the same name. It was this version I heard on my way to work, and one I thoroughly enjoyed. It's certainly a softer tune but has some stellar Appalachian folk vibes to it.
The 20-year-old started putting out music in 2024 with his debut song, "Take It Slow." That song was soon followed by "5 to 9." Westbrook has since been touring and has released three more songs as of early 2025. I'll definitely be giving them a listen in the coming days.
