NASA Will Be In Indiana For a Special Solar Eclipse Event on April 8th
The total solar eclipse that we will be experiencing is a HUGE deal, and even NASA is heading to the Hoosier state for it!
Won't Happen For Another 819 Years!
What makes this year's total solar eclipse such a huge deal, is the fact that this won't happen again over our area for another 819 years (how did they figure that out? No clue, but science is cool). So many places along the path of totality are gearing up for a lot of tourism, and a very busy April 8th. One of those places along the path of totality is Indianapolis, and Indy is hosting a huge event that involves NASA.
NASA in Indianapolis
If you want to view the total solar eclipse at an event, then you may want to hit the road and go up to Indianapolis for the day. On April 8th, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has invited NASA to join them, and NASA will have experts there and even a live broadcast from the event.
Here is what NASA has to say about the event:
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) is the home to the world’s largest single day sporting event, the Indianapolis 500, while also playing host to numerous world-class events held in the spirit of the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. With this unmatched combination of pedigree, tradition, experience, and resources, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will serve as the world’s largest viewing site for the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has invited NASA to join as collaborators to feature its live broadcast and showcase NASA experts and engagements around the scientific phenomenon that is a total solar eclipse! Just after 3 p.m. (ET) on April 8, 2024, when the Path of Totality begins, it will mark the first time in 819 years that a Total Solar Eclipse has been visible from Indianapolis. Another Total Solar Eclipse will not happen in Indianapolis again until the year 2153, 129 years after next year’s occurrence.
If you're interested in going to the event, tickets are $20, and kids 18 and under are free with a paying adult. Upon arrival, you'll also get eclipse glasses to view the eclipse which is pretty dang neat! If you want to learn more, and buy tickets, you can do so through the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's website, here.
