How to Make Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits at Home
With Red Lobster locations shutting down, many fear losing access to the chain's famous "Cheddar Bay Biscuits." Here's how to make them at home.
Personally, I love home cooking. In addition to my weekend slow-smoking and grilling sessions, I've also begun to experiment with more baking recipes. While my wife is the star baker at my house, there are a couple of dishes that I like to put together, namely, scratch-made biscuits, pancakes, and pizza dough as of late. With the recent Red Lobster closings, I decided to find a way to make their delectable cheesy biscuits at home, and it's actually easier than one might think.

If you want to go the easiest route, you can actually buy the Red Lobster Biscuit Mix. However, you might save a little money by making it with ingredients you already have at home. Plus, you never know just how long that pre-packaged biscuit mix will be around. If you want the satisfaction of saying you made them on your own, here is what you will need:
- Flour (2 cups)
- Baking soda (1/4 teaspoon)
- Baking Powder (1 Tablespoon)
- Sugar (1 teaspoon)
- Garlic powder (1/2 teaspoon)
- Salt (1/4 teaspoon)
- Milk (1 cup)
- Cold butter (1/3 cup)
- Shredded cheddar cheese (3/4 cup)
You can also make garlic butter to brush the tops with after the biscuits are done baking. All you need to do for this is combine the following ingredients:
- Melted butter (1/4 cup)
- Dried parsley (1 teaspoon)
- Garlic powder (1/2 teaspoon)
- Italian seasoning (1/2 teaspoon) Optional
This recipe comes from Spend With Pennies and will make a dozen biscuits. The author notes that these copycat Cheddar Bay Biscuits can be kept in an airtight container or freezer bag at room temperature for up to 4 days. You can even freeze them if you have more leftovers, but let's face it, is that really going to happen?
- You will start by preheating your oven to 400 degrees. While your oven is preheating, you can mix together your dry ingredients, which include the flour, baking powder, sugar, garlic powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Next, add the butter and mix the dough together with a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture is crumbly. You can then stir in your milk and cheese.
- Drop your biscuits one by one, using a spoon, onto a parchment-lined pan.
- Bake for 12–14 minutes, or until the tops are golden. You can then remove your biscuits and let them cool for about three minutes before brushing them with garlic butter if you desire.
