Drivers who commute across the Lloyd Expressway daily can expect more lane closures along the road that will last a couple of months.

If you have driven along the Lloyd Expressway over the past year or two, you have most certainly noticed all of the construction. A lot of these projects are all a part of TheLloyd4U initiative. This includes more than a dozen improvement projects along the Lloyd Expressway, including intersection improvements, bridge replacements, pavement replacements, and more.

The changes aim to help traffic flow better along the Lloyd Expressway. As you know, there has been construction on the eastside and westside that has been ongoing for a while. A few projects have already been completed on the Lloyd Expressway, including the displaced left turn intersection at State Road 66 and Epworth Road and at the Stockwell intersection. As the construction continues, so do the lane closures and more. However, this particular lane closure announcement is a part of Phase 1 of an Evansville Water and Sewer Utility waterline project.

Major Lane Closures on the Lloyd Expressway

According to a recent post from Evansville Water and Sewer Utility, starting Monday, May 18, EWSU contractors will begin the next stage of an ongoing water infrastructure improvement project. So, what does this mean? Well, this project will impact the Lloyd Expressway at St. Joe Avenue and require phased lane restrictions through July 31st.

Here's what you need to know, according to Evansville Water and Sewer Utility:

Drivers traveling between Barker Avenue and Wabash Avenue should expect changing traffic patterns and delays through May 28 during the first phase of work.
During this phase:
• Westbound Lloyd traffic will merge from three lanes down to two between Wabash Avenue and Fulton Avenue
• Drivers will not be able to turn left from westbound Lloyd onto southbound Wabash Avenue
• Additional lane restrictions will be in place near St. Joe Avenue
Drivers needing southbound access to Wabash Avenue should continue west to St. Joe Avenue and follow posted detours.

Please slow down in the work zone, watch for crews, and allow extra travel time. EWSU says that drivers should be on the lookout for future phase updates.
