The Old Richardsville Road Bridge

There's just something kind of eerie about old bridges, especially ones that have haunting legends associated with them.  Located on the outskirts of Bowling Green, Kentucky sits a bridge that is quite unique.  Known as the Old Richardsville Road Bridge, the historic bridge dates back to the 1800s.  HisotricBridges.org says there is some confusion as to when the bridge was built because there is a plaque on the bridge that says 1889, but due to the design of the bridge, some believe it dates back even further into the 1860s or 1870s. Even though there is some discrepancy as to when the bridge was built, it's safe to say this bridge was built over a century ago, which makes it pretty old.

According to Historic Bridges, the Old Richardsville Road Bridge is not only historic, it's also a rare type of bridge. The bridge is considered a bowstring truss bridge.

The Old Richardsville Road Bridge is an extremely rare three span cast and wrought iron bowstring truss bridge. The bridge has a complicated history that is not fully understood.

With a bridge this unique, it should come as no surprise that there are plenty of legends surrounding it.

The Legend of the Car-Pushing Ghost

Honestly, a car-pushing ghost would be really helpful if you were to run out of fuel somewhere or your battery died, but this isn't that kind of ghost.  Legend says if you put your car in neutral while on the bridge, a ghost will begin to push your car.  Explore Kentucky says the legend is a popular one in the area.

There are many versions of the tale, but the most common one that crops up in conversation is that a young girl discovered she was pregnant, and committed suicide by  throwing herself off of the bridge.

So if you're interested in being "haunted", here is what you need to do. Wait until nightfall and pull your car onto the bridge. Turn your vehicle completely off with it put into neutral. The ghost of the girl will push your car all the way across to the other side so that you will not face the same fate as hers.

Okay, but how sad is that??  If the bridge really is haunted, it's just by a helpful ghost who is fearing for your safety.  Recently a video from AmericanXplorers tested this legend out, did it work for them?  Watch the video below and see for yourself.
