The Evansville area sure loves Koe Wetzel, and it seems he loves us right back because he's announced that he's coming back to the Ford Center for his second show in less than a year.

Koe Wetzel Returning to Evansville in March

Normally when an artist comes to town, we don't see them roll through again for another two to three years, if not longer. But that's not the case with Koe. The last time he stopped in Evansville for a show was earlier this year. April 15th, 2022 to be exact. This next stop will happen about two weeks prior to the one-year anniversary of that show on March 31st, 2023. It's certainly unconventional for a performer to come back to town that soon, but being unconventional is kind of his thing.

A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock & Roll

If you're not familiar with Koe, there's really no other way I can think to describe him and his sound other than that. His songwriting is definitely Country in the way he tells a story, and many of them certainly have the traditional elements of the "Country sound," but he also regularly adds elements of rock that are reminiscent of the Seattle grunge sound made popular in the early '90s by bands like Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and others. He drinks, he smokes, he cusses, and he doesn't care what people think. He's like a rebel country artist for today's generation. Take a look at the video below for "Money Spent" off his new album, Hell Paso and you'll see what I mean.

While it's clear that Koe takes a lot of inspiration from the world of rock music, he's not afraid to slow things down and bare his soul with a song about heartbreak that leans a little more Country in its sound, like another song from Hell Paso called "Oklahoma Sun."

He's Practically Self-Made

What may be most impressive about Koe is that his success up to this point is that he's done it all himself. Before signing with Columbia Records in 2020, Koe made a name for himself independently by sharing his music through social media and YouTube, along with music streaming services. To date, he's racked up 1.3 billion streams.
