Kentucky Voted as One of the Most Hated States in America
Wow, it looks like folks in the United States really don't like the Bluegrass State, but why?
Most people typically take pride in where they come from. Sometimes there's a little friendly (or not-so-friendly) rivalry between states, where people say this state is better than that state for whatever reason. Then you have people who really don't like the state that they live in. Whether it’s job opportunities, cost of living, or recreation some states just don’t stack up. Kentucky is one of those states. I want to be clear, I do not hate Kentucky or Kentuckians, so don't shoot the messenger. However, I saw this new top ten most hated states in America list shared by World According to Briggs on YouTube, and I was surprised that out of all the states, Kentucky made the list.
Kentucky Fried Haters
According to this video, over 3,000 Americans participated in a survey asking what is the most hated state in the country and why. As it turns out, Kentucky came in at number eight on this list. Kentucky faces criticism for its high poverty rates, poor health care, and its education system. Also, Kentucky's strong association with certain cultural stereotypes and its economic struggles also contributed to its ranking in favorability, which means that people don't want to live there. The video goes on to say that Kentucky has high rates of obesity and smoke-related diseases.
Now, I lived in Kentucky for a few years and I don't really have anything bad to say about it other than the drivers are kind of terrible. Kentucky being ranked as one of the most hated states in America is kind of odd to me because the state just seems like it's kind of minding its own business. What do you think though? Should Kentucky have made this list?
