Kentuckians are known for their true southern hospitality through and through.  One very special Kentucky town has been named friendliest five years in a row.

WHAT IS SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY?

Angel here and I'll be totally honest I've lived in a lot of places in my life but Kentucky is by far the most welcoming.  In our home growing up, you said yes ma'am, no ma'am, thank you, and please.  If I was ever to say "What" to my mother and was in distance she might pop me in the mouth or on the butt.  It was considered disrespectful to answer in that way.

We were also taught to hold doors for others, say excuse me if we bumped into someone, and also honor the elderly.  This is just part of being Southern.  You treat everyone kindly and do as your momma tells you.

HOW DOES A TOWN GET NAMED THE FRIENDLIEST IN  AMERICA?

Being named the friendliest town in America is a pretty darn big honor.  However, to be named five years in a row says something super special about a place.

It took a big group of people to put it all together including Rand McNally, USA Today, and Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI).  They put a list of criteria together and here's what was on it; the Most Beautiful, Most Fun, Most Patriotic, Best Food, and Friendliest.

It takes a whole lot of planning on the part of the town and its people.  You are required first to do a huge social media campaign. to plan three days full of activities.

FIVE MUST BE THE MAGIC NUMBER FOR MURRAY, KENTUCKY

Murray, Kentucky was named America's Friendliest Small Town for five different years.  Murray is probably most well-known for being home to Murray State University.

They also have a beautiful historic Downtown area with four blocks of amazing shops and restaurants.

Murray is also surrounded by the great outdoors of Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley.

Murray's tagline when entering the contest each year is "Feels Like Home".  I'd say it's a pretty safe bet if a place feels like home then it is definitely deserving of being called America's Most Friendly.
