According to Wikipedia, Sturgill Simpson was born and raised in Jackson KY until his family moved to a small town outside of Lexington KY where Sturgill graduated from Woodford County High School and is a Navy Veteran. Although his music career started out in Bluegrass in 2004, later in his carer, he moved more toward country outlaw, country alternative, country rock roots and rock country soul genres.
