Tornadoes have swept through the Bluegrass and caused severe devastation to many families.  One Kentucky mission is helping them to recover one box at a time.

Owensboro's St. Vincent de Paul is always serving the community in whatever ways it can to make it better.

We serve our neighbors in need by assisting with food, clothing, shelter, utility bills, transportation, medicine, rent, and other immediate needs. Our goal is to remove barriers to self-sufficiency.

St. Vincent De Paul here in Owensboro offers assistance to individuals and families in need.  They also have their thrift store located on East 18th Street.  You can find everything from clothing and accessories to furniture and household items.

TAKING THE MISSION A STEP FURTHER

In late 2022 St. Vincent de Paul received the awesome news it would be a part of the "House in a Box" program.

The program out of the national Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s Disaster Service Corporation, would not even fit in a box. It’s actually an initiative to provide survivors of natural disasters with basic furniture and furnishings as they transition to their new homes.

Founded in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the program is “kind of a house starter kit,” according to Richard Remp-Morris, the executive director/CEO of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Western Kentucky.

A family can apply and St. Vincent will provide a House in a Box and the cost is around $3,000 for a family of four.  They end up with just over $7,000 worth of items to help furnish their home.  They create what is needed depending on the size of the family.

The charity is able to supply up to 500 families with help and they are asking people to apply.
