Are Any of the Names in This Old Indiana Textbook Yours?
Several years ago, my sister was at Goodwill and found a copy of an old horror novel by Frank De Felitta called Audrey Rose. It was published in 1975, and she had read it back in the 1980s.
When she opened the copy she had just found, she discovered her name in the book. She was holding the book she had owned decades before. So she read it again; I believe in signs, and I would have, too.
That incident fascinated me and has always made me wonder how often something like that happens. The odds must be astronomical. And with that in mind, I've checked every book I've seen of which I once had a copy. So far--despite being a big fan of vendor markets--no dice.
But maybe this time I won't roll snake eyes. Maybe this time, I'll hit the jackpot. It is, however, not up to me on this go-round. Recently, I came across this old reading textbook and wondered if I'D ever used it in school. Either my memory banks failed me, or this wasn't one of mine. However, according to the inside cover, it came across the desk of at least FIVE students in the 1980s. They were students at Barr Reeve Intermediate School in Montgomery IN. I could only make out four of the names.
And of course, one or more of these folks could no longer be with us, but I hope that isn't the case. I think it would be really cool if that former student saw this and reached out.
I don't know if they'd want the book or not, but it's theirs if they do.
