I LOVE a weird national holiday. Almost as much as I loved New Kids on the Block. Funny enough, it is National New Kids on the Block Day.
The Godfathers of Modern Boy Bands
When NKOTB first hit the scene in 1984, a pop music singing group of young guys was not common. Donnie Wahlberg was the first member of the group and then his high school friends were recruited to form the iconic super group. Jonathan and Jordan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, and Danny Wood were destined to steal the hearts of every teenage girl of the 80s and early 90s.
With hits like "Please Don't Go Girl," "Hangin' Tough," "You Got it (The Right Stuff)" NKOTB have sold over 80 million albums worldwide, won awards, and continue to tour sold out shows in arenas across the U.S. They'll be close by in Cincinnati this June for their Magic Summer tour with special guests Paula Abdul and DJ Jazzy Jeff. Here's their tour schedule.

First off, these dolls were everything. Just the right size to take your Barbie out on dates! I remember the Joey doll specifically because he was my fave.
The 1990 NKOTB Sleeping Bag!! I wanted this bad boy so much!
This necklace turned your neck green, but it was worth it show your support of your favorite boy band. They also made lockets with each of the guy's pictures on them.

These cardboard cutouts were used for Coca-Cola promotions in stores.
1990 bright and funky duffel bag from K-Mart. Perfect to pair with your NKOTB sleeping bag to be the coolest gal at the slumber party.
I think all of my friends had these storage boxes with different things on them. Singers, unicorns, kittens, etc. They were great for keeping your diary or Teen Bop magazines safe.

So was this snazzy watch. You could take the boys with you everywhere.

Of course, there was a lunch box! I can't remember if there was a matching thermos or not.
I still have my button collection! They're on bags and jackets and my corkboard in my office. I wish I had one of those giant ones I've seen before.
NKOTB Calendar! In the year 2048, these dates from 1992 will match up again.
Remember getting a new calendar and immediately looking to see what picture was your birthday month?
NKOTB Magazines and Fan Newsletters shared everything you ever needed to know about your biggest crushes. You could usually find a sweet new poster folded up inside!
New Kids on the Block walked so bands like The Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, New Direction, and B.T.S. could run. Even though members of NKOTB parted ways to have their own careers for a bit, I'm glad they got the gang back together and are still making music and touring.
