There was nothing like a big bowl of cereal and Saturday morning cartoons before heading outside to play. If you grew up in the '70s, you know exactly what I mean. Back then, cereal mascots were just as famous as the cartoon characters, and finding the prize in the box was half the fun.

Funny thing is, some of those same cereals are still favorites today.

According to a recent analysis of Google Trends data by the research team at Concordia University, St. Paul, Froot Loops is the most-searched cereal in America, ranking first in 13 states. And Kentucky? Yep! We picked Froot Loops, too.

Rice Krispies and Cheerios tied for second place nationwide, proving the classics are still holding a place at the kitchen table. Then there were a few states that went their own way. Minnesota picked Wheaties, West Virginia stuck with Corn Flakes, and Iowa somehow chose Cap'n Crunch, even though everybody knows that cereal tears up the roof of your mouth.

Although Cap'n Crunch and Count Chocula were staples in my house, my favorite growing up was Lucky Charms, and if I'm being honest, it still is! Those marshmallows never get old. Something about a bowl of Lucky Charms while watching cartoons in your pajamas felt like the greatest thing in the world. Those were the days!

But personal favorites aside, the South definitely seems to like the sweeter cereals. States like Kentucky, Texas, Florida, and Georgia all went with Froot Loops. Meanwhile, the Northeast leaned more toward Cheerios, while Honey Bunches of Oats topped the charts in several Western states.

Cereal's more than breakfast. One spoonful and suddenly you're 10 years old again, sitting cross-legged in front of the TV.

So now the big question!  What was your favorite cereal growing up?
