I have great memories of visiting the library as a young pup. I'm from Owensboro, and our public library used to be where Owensboro Public Schools is now headquartered. The sunken floor in the kids' section, the albums (actual wax records) at the listening station, all of it. Loved it.

Speaking of those records, I remember thinking how weird it was that you could check out something besides a book at a library. You could also check out paintings, if I'm not mistaken. I never could figure out why you'd do that, but whatever. They were there for the renting.

What You Can Check Out at the Henderson Public Library

Of course, when we entered the home video age, the library became an important resource when it came to finding old movies. They had tons of them. At the Henderson Public Library, you can check out so much more than DVDs, though. Need a player to play it on? Check. Need a furniture dolly? Check. What about a roll-up piano? Who knows why you'd need one, but check.

This is amazing.

Paper shredders, stud finders, tumble towers. You can even check out mobile hotspot devices and cards that let you into the Evansville Museum for free.

I'm not sure how many other libraries in our area have a storage facility loaded with highly useful items, but, as simple as this all sounds, it's also pretty revolutionary from my standpoint. Remember...I'm from the days of books, records, and artwork. Period.

I'm new to this particular game, and it's a game changer.
