Last night, my daughter and I went to hang out with our horses at the barn where we board. When I stepped out of the truck and walked into the barn, I immediately thought, "This is the PERFECT temperature."
Since it was about 5 PM, the temperature was around 82 degrees with 60% humidity. It was blissful... until the mosquitoes descended upon me.

Southern Indiana Heat Is Back
Today, I woke up and looked at the weather and saw that the 90s were back, baby. And they are here to stay for at least a few days.
Boo! I love summer, but I'm over this HOT weather!
It's so bad that the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory. When you combine temperatures in the 90s with high humidity, it can feel much hotter than the actual temperature. That's why the National Weather Service is warning about heat index values around 105 degrees. Daily peak heat index values are around 105 degrees, and the heat and humidity can cause heat-related illness.
Ugh. No thank you!

Cooler Temperatures Are Coming
My weather app did let me in on a little secret, though. Cooler temperatures are on the way. According to AccuWeather, these 90+ temperatures are going to last through next Sunday, but then starting Monday, it will drop to 83 degrees.
From there, Tuesday will be 80 degrees, and starting Wednesday, the high temperatures will drop into the 70s. The humidity will drop, too.
So, you might want to (gasp) get out your sweatshirts and start decorating for Fall!
What Is Normal for Southern Indiana in September?
Here in the Tri-State, September is one of the most pivotal months for temperature reduction.
According to the National Weather Service's 1991–2020 climate normals, temperatures normally start dropping pretty quickly as we move through September.
| Time in September | Typical High | Typical Low |
|---|---|---|
| Sept. 1–5 | 85–86° | 63–64° |
| Sept. 6–10 | 84–85° | 62–63° |
| Sept. 11–15 | 82–84° | 60–62° |
| Sept. 16–20 | 81–82° | 58–60° |
| Sept. 21–25 | 79–80° | 56–58° |
| Sept. 26–30 | 77–78° | 53–55° |
So, our 90-degree week in mid-September is about 10 degrees higher than we should be seeing. Be sure to get all your pool time in this week, because we'll be back on track next week when things start to cool off. And I, for one, will be ready for it. Bring on the sweatshirts, cooler evenings, and all things FALL!
