Two Indiana cities are getting national recognition after a new ranking named the best places to live in the Midwest.

According to a new report from Livability, both Carmel, Indiana, and Fishers, Indiana landed in the Top 25 Best Places to Live in the Midwest, with Carmel taking the number one spot overall.

Livability says Carmel stands out for its strong economy, highly rated schools, and access to quality health care.

The city also benefits from its proximity to Indianapolis while still offering a quieter, more relaxed pace of life.

Safety is another major factor, making Carmel an attractive place for families.

The city’s arts and entertainment scene also played a role in the ranking, with destinations like the Arts and Design District and the Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts helping drive community engagement.

Outdoor spaces are another highlight, with more than 700 acres of parks and greenways, including the popular Monon Greenway.

Fishers Lands In The Top Three

Fishers also earned high marks, ranking third overall on the list.

Livability highlighted the city’s strong health care options, highly rated schools, and low crime rate as key reasons for its placement.

The city continues to grow rapidly, with a population now exceeding 100,000.

Fishers also stands out for its focus on innovation and entrepreneurship, with spaces like Launch Fishers and Hub & Spoke supporting local businesses and startups.

The Nickel Plate District has become a central hub for dining, shopping, and entertainment.

Rankings Based On Dozens Of Data Points

Livability says the rankings were based on nearly 100 data points, including cost of living, housing, education, safety, transportation, and overall quality of life.

The study evaluated more than 2,000 cities across the United States before narrowing the list down to the top communities in the Midwest.
